Meeting between the Presidents of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan took place in Dushanbe

On 9 October 2025, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov was on a working visit to Dushanbe, Republic of Tajikistan, to participate in the second “Central Asia-Russia” Summit and the successive meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States.
On the same day, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.
Warmly welcoming his colleague, the President of Tajikistan expressed his gratitude for accepting the invitation to visit the Republic of Tajikistan and noted that the current visit of the head of Turkmenistan will serve to further strengthen traditionally friendly relations between the two countries.
Expressing his gratitude for the invitation and hospitality, the President of Turkmenistan conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag to President Emomali Rahmon.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed his gratitude to President Emomali Rahmon for participating in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in the National Tourist Zone “Avaza” in August of current year, and emphasized the personal contribution of the head of Tajikistan to strengthening friendly relations between the two countries.
President Emomali Rahmon addressed his best wishes to Hero-Arkadag and emphasized the importance of mutual visits at the highest state level.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov underlined that Turkmenistan and Tajikistan have similar positions on key issues of world and regional politics, and expressed gratitude to the Tajik side for supporting Turkmenistan’s policy of positive neutrality and international initiatives.
The positive experience of cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, primarily the UN, was noted. Tajikistan co-sponsored a number of UN General Assembly Resolutions initiated by Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan highly appraises the international efforts of Tajikistan and supports its constructive initiatives within international organizations.
The sides exchanged views on cooperation between Central Asian countries in the field of regional security and environmental protection. In this context, the importance of the High-Level International Conference on Glaciers’ Preservation, held in Dushanbe in May of current year, was emphasized.
At the meeting, the sides also discussed trade and economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan. The practicality of measures to unfolding the potential of two countries in this area was highlighted, including increasing the volume of mutual trade and diversifying economic ties.
In this context, the role of the Turkmen-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, whose last meeting was held in Ashgabat in October last year, was highlighted. The possibility of holding the next meeting of this Commission in the near future was considered.
The sides also discussed issues of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, where science and education remain one of the priorities.
At the end of the meeting, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon reaffirmed the commitment of two countries to further strengthening of traditionally friendly relations and exchanged best wishes.
