Seminar “International Year of Peace and Trust: Cooperation for Peace” gathered many guests in Islamabad

On January 30, 2025, at the initiative of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, jointly with the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan and the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI), a seminar “International Year of Peace and Trust: Cooperation for Peace” was held in the ISSI building.

Two sessions seminar was attended by Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Syed Haider Shah, Chairman of the Board of Governors of ISSI Khalid Mahmood, Director General of ISSI Sohail Mahmood, Director of the Center for China and Pakistan Studies at ISSI Talat Shabbir, UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan Mohamed Yahya, Ambassador of Turkmenistan A.Movlamov, Assistant Resident Representative of UNDP in Pakistan Ammar Durrani, Head of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies of the National Defense University of Pakistan Maria Saifuddin Efendi, former Ambassador of Pakistan to China Masood Khalid.

In his speech, Ambassador A.Movlamov spoke about Turkmenistan's policy aimed at consolidating international efforts to strengthen peace and trust in international relations and the formation of appropriate political and diplomatic prerequisites and opportunities for this. In this context, it was noted that, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly declared 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, and that Turkmenistan adopted the Concept of the country's activities and priorities within the framework of the International Year of Peace and Trust. The policy pursued by Turkmenistan and the adopted Concept were highly appreciated by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres during a telephone conversation with the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which took place on January 14, 2025.

The attention of those present was also drawn to the initiative put forward in 2023 by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly to develop a Global Security Strategy.

The speakers at the seminar noted the importance of joint efforts to create conditions for moving international relations in a positive direction, strengthening trust in world politics and restoring dialogue between peoples. In this regard, they expressed gratitude and support to the leadership of Turkmenistan for its leading role at the global level in promoting policies aimed at implementing urgent tasks to strengthen peace and trust. It was noted that at present, these principles and goals are particularly relevant against the background of existing systemic international problems. They also stated that 2025 will be an important milestone in the history of not only Turkmenistan, but also the entire world community, opening up new horizons for building a world based on trust, cooperation and mutual understanding. They noted the importance of Turkmenistan's efforts and contribution to creating an atmosphere of international peace and trust, emphasizing that the Concept of Activities and Priorities of Turkmenistan clearly demonstrates the constructive role of Turkmenistan in building global peace.
