Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan speaks at a briefing for representatives of UN Member States

On March 4, 2025, the first quarterly briefing of UN agencies for Ambassadors of Member States was held in Islamabad.

The event was co-chaired by UN Resident Coordinator in Pakistan, Mr. Mohamed Yahya, and the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador of Turkmenistan, Mr. A. Movlamov.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador A.Movlamov highlighted the UN General Assembly's proclamation of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among member states and various UN bodies to strengthen peace and promote economic development both regionally and globally.

UN Resident Coordinator Mohamed Yahya provided an overview of UN activities in Pakistan, discussing how current international developments are influencing their work.

Florence Rolle, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative in Pakistan, briefed attendees on strategies to enhance Pakistan's food supply system amidst challenges posed by climate change and population growth, which threaten food security.

Geir Tonstall, the International Labour Organization (ILO) Representative in Pakistan, reported on the progress of labor standards implementation in the country, noting that Pakistan has ratified 8 out of the 10 fundamental ILO conventions.
