A BRIEFING WAS HELD IN ASHGABAT DEDICATED TO THE EUROPEAN CONFERENCE OF WHO

On the 8th of April 2019, a briefing was held in the premises of the United Nations representative office in Ashgabat for the representatives of mass media in the framework of upcoming High-Level Conference on Non-communicable diseases named “Meeting non-communicable diseases – targets to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in Europe” which is organized in Turkmenistan jointly with the World Health Organization.

The representatives of the Ministry of Health Protection and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan, Head of WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan and the responsible representatives of the WHO, as well as the representatives of local and accredited mass media in Turkmenistan and political scientists participated in the event.

During the briefing, the participants received information on the goals and objectives of the upcoming conference including the review of global aims and current situation in the region. Also the role and significance of the mass media in strengthening the health protection and raising the awareness of the population was discussed.

It was noted that the issues related to health protection are an integral part of the Sustainable Development Goals. Turkmenistan is actively working with the UN agencies and the WHO European Office in this sphere. The subjects relevant to the implementation of the SDGs in Turkmenistan are reflected in the Programme of social-economic development of the country for the period of 2019-2025 and the “Health” National Programme.
