Islamabad hosted a roundtable of Ambassadors of Central Asia and Azerbaijan on regional cooperation

On February 6, 2025, a roundtable discussion - “Ambassadorial Dialogue on Regional Cooperation” was held at the Institute of Regional Studies Islamabad (IRSI).

Senator Mushahid Hussain, President of IRSI Jawhar Saleem and the Ambassadors of Central Asia and Azerbaijan addressed the event.

Speakers at the event named strengthening political and diplomatic ties, exploring ways to increase trade and investment, promoting energy cooperation and regional connectivity, developing contacts between think tanks and expanding cultural diplomacy, as well as cooperation to strengthen resilience to climate change among countries in the region as actual topics of dialogue.

In his speech, Ambassador of Turkmenistan A. Movlamov spoke about a number of major energy and infrastructure projects initiated by his country, including TAPI and TAP. Particular attention was paid to the start of construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section of the TAPI transnational gas pipeline. In this context, the Ambassador noted that in addition to ensuring energy security, these projects will undoubtedly give impetus to the economic development of the region, have a positive impact on the environment, will contribute to the creation of tens of thousands of additional jobs and improve the well-being of people in Pakistan.

Ambassador A. Movlamov also drew the attention of the dialogue participants to the UN General Assembly Resolution on declaring, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust. In this context, he spoke about the policy of the leadership of Turkmenistan aimed at consolidating international efforts to strengthen peace and trust in international relations.

During the discussions and exchanges of views, the dialogue participants noted the relevance of joint efforts to maintain peace and strengthen trust against the backdrop of emerging trends and events in international and interstate relations.
