MEETING WITH THE WINNERS OF “YOUNG AMBASSADORS OF SDG” CONTEST WAS HELD AT THE MFA OF TURKMENISTAN

On the 11th of March 2019, a meeting was held with winners of the “Young Ambassadors of SDG” contest that was announced last year by UN in Turkmenistan and Educational-methodical Centre for Sustainable Development Goals in the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

At the beginning of the meeting, congratulatory words were expressed to the winners of the contest on winning this competition and the role of the youth of Turkmenistan that can make a valuable contribution to the process of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals was stressed.  During the meeting, the achievements of Turkmenistan in the sphere of transport, energy and water diplomacy were particularly underlined.  Especially, the lecture dedicated to the initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan in the framework of UN in the area of ecological safety and chairmanship in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea was given to the Young Ambassadors of SDG.

It is worthwhile to note that faculty and students of various higher educational institutions of Turkmenistan, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations participated to the “Young Ambassadors of SDG” contest.  An Ambassador of SDG is selected for one year and works on promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Such contest takes place for the first time in Turkmenistan.  Connecting the youth to the implementation of national programs initiated by the President of Turkmenistan is coherently linked to the attainment of the Agenda 2030.  As is known, this year Turkmenistan will present its National Voluntary Review of Turkmenistan on the SDGs during the High-Level Political Forum to be held in the UN Headquarters in New-York.
