UN GENERAL HEALTH COVERAGE SESSION HELD AT 74TH SESSION

On September 23, 2019, at the UN headquarters in New York, with the adoption of the political Declaration in the field of health, the first of the five main summits of the High Level Week began, which was held under the motto “Universal Health Coverage: moving together to build a healthier world”.

The delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan took part in the summit on the Universal coverage of health services from the Turkmen side.

After the opening ceremony, a plenary meeting and two panel discussions took place. During the meetings, UN member states stated that medicine should be accessible to all and promised to increase the cost of primary health care by one to two percent of the runway. The statement by the head of the delegation of Turkmenistan was heard during panel discussions.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, President of the 74th UN GA, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande called this decision one of the most important achievements in the field of health.

The head of the UN said that the approved Political Declaration is the most comprehensive agreement that has ever been reached in the field of healthcare. It is, in fact, the roadmap towards universal health care by 2030. He congratulated all states on the adoption of this historic document.

The new Declaration will contribute to success in combating infectious diseases, including HIV / AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. The Declaration states the need to ensure equal universal access to reproductive health services for the world's inhabitants. It contains a number of measures to protect women's health.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus noted that, by adopting the declaration, UN Member States have pledged to move towards universal provision of health services. They promised additional funding in four areas related to primary health care.

Civil society representatives said that they would not stand aside, and would also allocate funds to implement the adopted Declaration and Sustainable Development Goals, which relate to health issues.
