PRESIDENT OF TURKMENISTAN PARTICIPATED TO THE SUMMIT OF TURKIC COUNCIL THROUGH VIDEOCONFERENCING

On the 10th of April 2020, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov took part in the extraordinary Summit of the Turkic Council upon the invitation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev who is chairing the Cooperation Council of the Turkic-speaking States.  

The Summit which was held through videoconferencing united the Heads of States of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and Uzbekistan.  The Prime Minister of Hungary, Secretary-General of the Turkic Council and the Director General of WHO also participated to the event.   

The participants of the Summit discussed the measures implemented at the national and worldwide levels on countering the coronavirus pandemic, including the development of multilateral cooperation in the area of healthcare and addressing the common challenges.  They also considered the ways of overcoming the negative effects of the given situation on the world economy.   

The President of Turkmenistan noted the necessity of working out the coordinated actions to successfully resist the given threat, as well as expressed confidence in that at current time the Turkic-speaking nations must demonstrate their best merits – humanism, mutual support and solidarity. He also underlined that being a responsible member of the international community, Turkmenistan is in active contact with the United Nations and its specialized agencies, primarily the World Health Organization.       

Assuring that the work in this regard will further continue, the Head of State has underlined that in the result of timely implemented measures, the sanitary-hygienic situation in Turkmenistan is stable and is under control.
