DELEGATION OF TURKMENISTAN PARTICIPATED TO THE HIGH-LEVEL CONFERENCE “GREEN CENTRAL ASIA”

On January 28, 2020, the delegation of Turkmenistan headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs R.Meredov participated to the high-level Conference “Green Central Asia” held in Berlin. The delegations of Germany, Central Asian countries and Afghanistan also took part in the Conference.
A wide range of issues related to the climate change and security in the region was discussed during, including the nature protection, integrated management of water resources, preservation of biodiversity, combatting desertification, development of mountain territories and others.
The launch of the regional initiative “Green Central Asia” on climate and security in the framework of the high-level Conference.
The goal of the initiative is to support the dialogue on climate change including the risks.
The “Green Central Asia” will play a vital role in the implementation of the new strategy of the European Union for the Central. This strategy is aimed at the enhancement of the countries’ resilience to the internal and external risks factors, such as climate and ecological factors.
The heads of the delegations expressed support to the regional initiative “Green Central Asia” signed a Joint Declaration.
Besides, on January 27-28, within the framework of the high-level Conference, the delegation of Turkmenistan had meetings with the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas, Executive Director of the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations Michael Harms, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/ Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell Fontelles, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany Peter Altmaier and the Advisor to the German Chancellor on external policy and security affairs Dr. Jan Hecker and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Mirwais Nab.
